สถานีรถไฟหัวหิน ตั้งอยู่ถนนพระปกเกล้า ตำบลหัวหิน อำเภอหัวหิน จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ เป็นสถานีรถไฟชั้น 2 ของทางรถไฟสายใต้ ทางด้านอาคารสถาปัตยกรรมได้รับยกย่องเป็นอาคารอนุรักษ์ อาคารหลังแรกก่อสร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2454 แต่อาคารที่เห็นในปัจจุบัน สร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2469 โดยพระเจ้าพี่ยาเธอ กรมพระกำแพงเพ็ชร์อัครโยธิน เมื่อครั้งทรงดำรงตำแหน่งผู้บังคับบัญชาการรถไฟ แห่งกรุงสยาม ซึ่งได้จากการยกอาคารไม้ที่จะใช้ในงานสยามรัฐพิพิธภัณฑ์ ซึ่งมีแผนจะจัดที่สวนลุมพินีเมื่อปลายปี พ.ศ. 2468 แต่ไม่ได้มีการจัดจริงเนื่องจากพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เสด็จสวรรคต และ พระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวมีพระราชกระแสให้เลิกจัดงานดังกล่าว เมื่อ 2 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2468 (นับอย่างปัจจุบันต้องปี พ.ศ. 2469 เพราะอยู่ในปี ค.ศ. 1926)

Hua Hin History

In 1834, before the name Hua Hin was coined, some agricultural areas of Phetchaburi Province were hit by severe drought. A group of farmers moved southward until they found a small village that had bright white sands and a row of rocks along the beach. They settled here and gave it the name Samore Riang (Thai สมอเรียง), which mean rows of rock.

In 1921 the director of the state railway, Prince Purachatra, built the Railway Hotel close to the beach. King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) liked the place so much that he built a summer palace there. The palace was named Wang Klai Kang Won (’Far from Worries’). It is now the full-time residence of His Majesty the King of Thailand. His Royal Highness Prince Krom Phra Naresworarit was the first member of the royal family to build a group of palaces at Ban Laem Hin, called Sukaves, and he give the name Hua Hin to the beach next to his palace.

In 1932 Hua Hin was part of Pran Buri district. In 1949 Hua Hin was promoted to be a district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province. After the building of southern railway, Hua Hin became the first and most popular beach resort of Thailand.

Hua Hin Town

Hua Hin Town (เทศบาลเมืองหัวหิน) is on the coast of Hua Hin District. With an area around 86.36 km², the town has 50,169 inhabitants. It is a popular beach resort getaway for Bangkok residents. The Railway Hotel, now more generally known as The Sofitel Hotel, is a famous old building which was used as The Hotel Pnom Phen in the film “The Killing Fields”.

Hua Hin Climate

Hua Hin has a tropical climate with high humidity and occasional rain. It is typically pleasant. Generally, the cool season is from November to February. The hottest months are March thru May. The rainy season begins in June and ends in October, however, since the weather is tropical, the rain outbursts are short, sporadic and heavy.

Hua Hin Vintage Car Rally Hoteliers, the Vintage Car Club of Thailand, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand annually sponsor a ‘parade’ of vintage and classic cars starting at the Sofitel Central in Bangkok and ending in at the Sofitel Central Hua Hin Resort. The cars, with drivers and passengers decked out in 1920’s attire, make the 225km promenade in December of each year. The festivities culminate with a 1920’s party at the Sofitel, which appropriately is a Victorian-style structure built in the 1920’s.

Hua Hin Attractions

Hat Hua Hin (ชายหาดหัวหิน) Hua Hin Beach extends some three kilometers southwards from a rocky headland until a southern headland where a Buddhist temple clings to the cliffs.

Hua Hin Railway Station (สถานีรถไฟหัวหิน) This is Thailand’s most beautiful train station. The wooden building used to be a royal pavilion in Sanamchan Palace, Nakhon Pathom province. It was rebuilt at Hua Hin in 1968.

Nightly Street Market (ตลาดโต้รุ่งหัวหิน) a popular shopping market allowing people the opportunity for shopping, native-style seafood cooked on the spot and to witness local people’s lifestyle.

Khao Takiap (เขาตะเกียบ) This hill, 14 kilometers from Hua Hin town, supports Buddhist temples and offers a commanding view of the resort, particularly early in the morning.

Khao Hin Lek Fai (เขาหินเหล็กไฟ) Situated 3 kilometers west of Hua Hin district, Khao Hin Lek Fai or Flint Mountain is 162 meters high. On the mountaintop, there is a public park and scenic spots from where the scenery of Hua Hin and its surrounding area is visible.

Khao Tao (เขาเต่า) 13 kilometers south of Hua Hin, there is a 1- kilometer branch road on the left which leads to the spot with two beaches called Hat Sai Noi and Hat Sai Yai.

Namtok Pa La-u (น้ำตกป่าละอู) This 11-tier scenic waterfall, some 60 kilometres west of Hua Hin, is located within a yearlong verdant forest where various kinds of birds and butterflies are found, especially in the morning.

Spirit Houses of Brassiere Beach were, according to legend, built to appease the spirit of a fisherman’s daughter who was once torn to pieces and her breasts fell into the sea. She was killed because she was desired by too many men. Until this day, the locals still hang brassieres to the spirit houses, but now they just pray for good luck.

Wat Huay Mongkol was home to the immensely popular monk Luang Phor Thuat was famed for his ‘miracles’. Commissioned by the Queen of Thailand, Wat Huay Mongkol houses the largest statue of Luang Phor Thuat in Thailand in a park-like setting. 10. Suan Son Pradiphat Beach, 8 km south of Hua Hin, is a peaceful location which is owned by the Army Welfare Office.

Before the city was named “Huahin”, a story was told that around 1834, in the reign of King Nang Klao, some of the agricultural areas in Petchburi were afflicted by a severe drought. Some of citizens moved south until they found “Samoh Rieng village”, up from Kao Takieb and Nong kae or Ban Nong Sakae. In Samoh Rieng, the seashore is very unusual. The rocks on the shore were beautifully spread out and the land was just right for farming and fishing, and was originally called “Samoh Rieng” village.

Prince Nares Worarit (Prince Krisadaphiniharn, an ancestor of the family “Kridakorn) was the first member of the royal family to build a palace here, the big palace near the southern part of Moo Hin (Now next to the Sofitel Hotel) and which he called “San Samran Suk Vesna” Later he built another palace called “San Samran” and “Suk Vesna” to receive other members of the royal family. He also ordered the building of many small houses with high vaults under the houses, which later became “Suk Vesna bungalow”, and he called the beach next to the palace and the other southern beaches “Huahin” to distinguish them from “Ban Lam Hin”, with the sea rock as the mark of the separation. The old Ban Lam Hin border to the south came as far as the Kade tree (This tree is now in front of the Sofitel Hotel and shelters a large shrine) not quite reaching the prince’s land. All this area is now called Huahin.

The land at the rock mark belonged to Prince Chakkapong Phuwanart, who built the 2 big palaces, White Palace first and then Grey Palace, with many small houses, which later became “Ban Jakkapong”, Malia hotel, and finally the Hilton hotel today.

While Klai Kangwon was being built, Prince Kampangpet Akarayothin (founder of the Burachat family) had “Chatchai” market built on the land of the royal treasury, designed with 7 consecutive vaults to remind people that the market had been built in the reign of King Rama VII. This market, called “Chatchai” market, was also said to be the cleanest market in Thailand at that time. Chatchai Market and the Rot Fai or Huahin hotel later became Huahin landmarks. Klai Kangwon palace was in fact more of a holy place than just a tourist destination.

Ever since the completion of the southern railway, connecting to the Malaysian border,  Huahin has been know as  the most famous vacation destination in Thailand. Tourists always come here to relax and enjoy various activities; swimming, fishing, and playing golf thanks to the  “Huahin Royal Golf Course”, accounted as the international standard golf course of Thailand.

Huahin has brought nothing but popularity to the Rot Fai hotel. Later the bungalow called “Central Huahin Village” was built here. This bungalow was chosen to be the scene of the international film  “Devil’s Paradise” as well as “Rot Fai Huahin hotel” which was the scene of the international film “The Killing Fields”, acting for the top hotel in Phnom Phen during the war.

Nowadays Huahin, rich with the legend, history and beautiful scenery, is still an exquisite and peaceful holiday venue and full of natural beauty. The Minister for Science, Technology and the Environment has declared Huahin to be a  pollution control zone. Huahin Tambol Municipality, led by Mr. Jira Pongpaiboon, mayor of Huahin Tambol and Mr. Sirichai Ausuwan and Mr. Pathom Pukdam, Huahin Tambol councillors have developed all the city near the beach and roads in such a way as to be clean and pollution free.

Huahin Municipality History

Huahin Municipality was founded in 1937. At that time, there were about 4,000 people living in the area, equal to 500 households with an income of about 30,000 – 40,000 baht. The total area in question was 72 square kilometers. In 1949, Huahin subdistrict was declared to be “Huahin district”, Prachuabkirikhan province. Later the area was expanded from 72 square kilometers to 86.36 square kilometers in 1995. On 13th February 2004, the Ministry of the Interior upgraded Huahin municipal Tambol to Huahin municipality (city level).

Narayana on the Naga is the figure on the emblem of municipality. According to Brahmin belief, the Naga is the creature who created the sea and Narayana is the angel helping humans find happiness.
